2020, a new decade, the year where all dreams and goals were supposed to come true. .. but then... a global pandemic hit and here we are in December still in the same position we were back in March (#tier3). However, not all hope and faith are lost and up until March 23rd, I was actually having a great start to the year and the bit in the middle wasn't too bad either.
I really enjoy reflecting back on the year and considering we spent almost 6 months of it in quarentine, it shouldn't take me too long to look back on my favourite memories.
So let's start from the beginning...
The year began with a goodbye and hard goodbye at that. In January my brother and hope packed their suitcases and started their new life in sunny Dubai. I'm telling you now it wasn't all smooth sailing and believe it or not lockdown over here had nothing on lockdown over there.
Never did I think that my brother would move away and I wouldn't get to see him for an entire year but it's all looking up and if you didn't know already, I will start my new year in Dubai. BRING ON 2021. I am extremely proud of them and can't wait to be shown around their new home!
Next up was February and it was my favourite and busiest month of the year!
It began with a visit to Manchester with 2 of my besties to see the Jonas Brothers!! 2008 Lys was in her element!.. who am I kidding? So was 2020 Lys! It was honestly one of the funniest nights I've ever had, I won't go into detail but all I will mention is white wine, sick in a cup and hungover as f*ck (sorry Grace).
2 weeks later I caught flights not feelings and flew to Barcelona with 2 of my friends, Kirsty and Maria for a long weekend. I wrote a full blog post here if you want to check out what I got up to, so I won't go into too much detail, but it was an amazing trip and I can't believe that we went into lockdown a month later! One of my new year's resolutions was to travel to somewhere I hadn't been before so I was thrilled to tick that one off my list 2 months into the new year.
*insert global pandemic*
... July.
July was a fun month looking back. We officially came out of lockdown on July 4th! (little did we know we were going back in HAHA).
We had more freedom, we could see our friends inside as well as outside and we could go to pubs and restaurants and shops. It really does make you appreciate the little things in life.
At the beginning of the month, it was my friend Hannah's birthday and it was amazing to be able to have a garden party and celebrate with her and all of our close friends. It finally felt like summer!
A few days after I went for day drinks with my little bubble of 6 and we had such a fun day. It was the first time that we had all been together in a long time.. apart from over zoom. #letsnotbringzoomquizzesback. I really cannot wait for a proper night out with too many tequila shots and a hangover from hell.
Shortly after September arrived, I don't know what happened to August. It almost felt like it went January, February, quarantine, end of the year...
September was the official staycation month for me as I went on 2 staycations with my besties.
The first one was to Rutland with 3 of my friends for a long weekend which was lovely, we were so lucky with the weather and spent pretty much of the majority of it on bikes. My last post was from our trip there so have a read if you want to see what we got up to https://elysiacutts.wixsite.com/blog/post/rutland-water-staycation-2020. I can't wait for some more trips with my friends and hopefully next time they involve passports and boarding passes!
The second staycation I went on was to Harrogate with my friends Alice and Hannah. We played lots of games, made some viral tiktoks and drank cocktails like there was no tomorrow. (Literally, because we went back into lockdown).
October and November seemed to role into 1 and what is usually my favourite time of the year turned into a bit of a shit show. I celebrated another year around the sun and I am now a 24-year-old and thriving .. kinda.. trying to...
I was blessed to spend my birthday weekend with all of my favourite people, in groups of 6 of course and it was just what I needed.
October was a hard month for me personally, I was just incredibly fed up. My motivation was lacking and I felt pretty much like a lost part. My friends and family were there when I really needed them and I am so grateful that I have the most supportive and caring people around me. So thank you to you.
And here we are in December, trying to just make it to the end of the year and truly start fresh in January for what will be the best year yet. Manifestation is key!!
2020 has been a whirlwind, but we made it so give yourself a pat on the back. If you had 1 breakdown it's cool, if you had 64 that's also fine, I think I was somewhere in the middle.
I am really hopeful that 2021 will be the year we thought 2020 would be.
We have 28 days left of this year and then it is very much behind us.
Happiness is just around the corona.
Thank you!
